Generating and Formatting Your CV

Once your Master CV Data is complete and (if necessary) translated, you can generate a PDF CV with various formatting and styling options.

How to Generate Your CV

This tutorial covers the final step of producing a PDF CV from your prepared Master CV Data.

Prerequisites:

  • Your Master CV Data is complete and accurate.
  • If translations are needed for your CV, they have been added and approved (preferably).
  • You have an idea of the content you want to include and the desired visual style for your CV.

Steps:

  1. Within the CV Builder, locate and click the "Generate CV" button. This will take you to the CV Generator interface.
  2. CV Configuration:
    1. You will be presented with options to configure what appears on your CV. This might be a manual configuration interface or a selection of predefined templates.
    2. If you are working with a template, please note that the main chapters of the CV will be locked. But you can freely select which sub-elements within a chapter to be shown.
    3. If you want maximum freedom, switch to manual CV configuration in the template selector. This will allow you to move and hide/unhide all chapters and sub-elements of the CV.
  3. Language Selection: Choose whether to generate your CV in the Primary CV Language or one of your available translated versions.
  4. Styling Selection: Choose a visual theme or style for your CV (e.g., Wide, Gray, Dark version).
  5. Once all configurations are set, click the final "Generate CV" (or "Export PDF," "Create PDF") button.
  6. The system will take a "snapshot" of your selected data and configuration at that moment and produce a PDF document.
  7. Your generated PDF will be available for download.

How to Manually Configure Your CV Content for Generation

The manual CV configuration allows you full control over which elements from your Master CV Data are included in your generated CV and in what order they appear.

You are in the CV Generator interface after clicking "Generate CV" from the CV Builder.

Steps:

  1. Switch to manual CV configuration in the template selector. In the manual CV configuration view, you will see a representation of the CV structure and your available Master CV Data elements.
  2. Show/Hide Elements:
    1. You can choose to show or hide entire sections (e.g., Education, Skills, specific Custom Fields).
    2. Within sections like Experience or Education, you might be able to select specific projects or qualifications to include or exclude (e.g., show only School 1 and School 3 from your Education).
  3. Reorder Elements:
    1. You can drag and drop sections to change their order on your CV. For example, you can move your Education section above your Experience section if desired.
  4. Select Specific Content: If you open a section like "Skills," you can select exactly which of your skills to display and potentially their sequence.
  5. After making all your selections and ordering choices, proceed to select language/styling and generate your CV.

TIP: You can even choose to display only a few key pieces of your information if the situation calls for a very concise CV.

How to Select a Styling (Color Theme) for Your CV

The CV Builder offers different visual stylings or themes for your generated CVs.

Prerequisites: You are in the CV Generator interface, ready to generate your CV.

Steps:

  1. During the CV generation process (either manual configuration or when using a template), look for an option to select CV Styling or Color Theme.
  2. The available options will be displayed. These include:
    1. o           White version
    2. o           Grey version
    3. o           Dark version
  3. Select the desired styling option.
  4. This styling will be applied to the PDF CV you generate.

FAQ

A: Yes, when using the manual CV configuration option, you can drag and drop sections to arrange them in your preferred order. If you use a predefined template made available to you, the main sections are in a fixed order, but you can still customize the content within those sections.

A: Yes, the system includes a feature for an "experience summary." You can select, for example, your three most vital projects, and the system will help you condense their summaries to be highlighted, potentially on the first page or wherever is most effective in the chosen layout.

A: "Chips" (small text elements) you've added to your project experience in the Master CV Data can also be displayed in your generated CV. The design encourages you to carefully select the right chips/skills relevant to a project rather than listing too many.
